Silica is in most rocks, sand and clay and in products made from these materials – for example, bricks.

 

China clay has up to 2 per cent crystalline silica, but fireclay may have more than 10 per cent and ball clay up to 37 per cent. When clay dries out, it can create high levels of airborne dust.
